Homeschool Room Remodel-Only 5 days left!

So, after much consideration and a lot of prayer the Rev and I have decided to homeschool the boys again. We prayed for months over this decision and spent a lot of time talking about it as well. So I have been feverishly redoing and finishing up the playroom which is now also going to be a school room! I had much to do and still have quite a bit left but it is starting to look good! I have finally painted a border around the top of the room, found a desk for Nolan at Goodwill, rearranged the room, and painted some cabinets for storage. I'm wishing I would've taken before pictures. Here is some of my progress:

First, I really didn't want to waste money on storage and such when I was sure I could find things to use around my basement/house. I found two plastic drawers. I had seen people using scrapbooking paper to cover the front. Well, I don't scrapbook, but while walking in Walmart I saw some printed duct tape. I covered the front with that to make it look prettier, hide the junk and make it coordinate with the room a little better.

both all done!

Next was setting up each boys work space. We already had a small picnic table that my dad made a looooooong time ago, and I was given a cabinet by a friend so I used this for T's and MyMy's space.

Next, the Rev and I had found B's desk last year shortly after we moved here. I was in the beginning stages of redoing this exact room and new it would be perfect. The store was going out of business and so it was dirt cheap. The first shelf will be for his books and the second has supplies. The only thing I hate is all those cords!!!! I really need to find a way to hide all the computer cords! And I didn't get to duct tape the plastic drawers in this space yet but it's coming!

Next up is N's space. We had found a table leaf in the garage when we moved in here so I started painting it white and thought we could buy legs and make a table. Well, little did I know that the cheapest legs that would be of proper height were over $8 each! So that would be over $32 plus we had to buy the hardwear to go with it! So I decided to go to Goodwill on half off day to search for something cheaper. Low and behold, God answered my prayer and I found a nice, simple, clean lines desk! I paid $15 so much cheaper.

Then in this picture is a cabinet that the church was getting rid of. The Rev sanded it and I painted it white and distressed it. My mother in law gave me the small shelves when she moved and I painted those white as well. I am going to add my printed duct tape to the back of the shelves to make it look a little nicer. This shelves will hold N's books and the cabinet will hold B's and N's other school supplies. The drawers are for added storage.

Now this also serves as the boys TV/video game room. There used to be a bed where space 3 is so I wanted to come up with something they could use to sit. I had already made some big pillows for the bed so I hung the comforter I made on a quilt holder that the Rev picked up cheaply at a flea market (I think it was $5). I stacked the pillows underneath. They also have some small chairs they can use.

And then (I actually did this first!) I put a painted border on two opposite walls. I wanted somethign fun but simple because this will eventually be 2 of the boys' bedroom.

I have a few finishing touches (Like some sort of covers for B's and N's chairs, taking care of those ugly computer cords and making additional seating out of some old crates we had laying around) Overall, it's coming along and I am ecstatic to be homeschooling again and the boys are excited as well! In 5 days they will be schooling at home again!

  1. Love the room, you always do great with stuff like that! It is going to look fabulous when you are done!

Hey I know I live far away with no car but, I have some things if you want them.
    A navy blue 5' 7' area rug
    A kitchen table w/4 chairs
A stand w/ 4 shelves "not expensive" Dark wood stuff with black plastic pipes in between but very sturdy, we just don't need it.
We are selling two white cabinets, with shuttered doors, one has three doors, one has two doors, shelves inside,$100 for both.
I am sure if you name something you have in mind that you wanted or needed I could come up with it somewhere, if anyone deserves you guys do let me know. Amy and Coleton
